Darryl Edwards founded Matrix Productions in 1987. Matrix initially focused on hiring out backline equipment and started operating from East Perth, Western Australia. Matrix soon identified an alternative niche market and within 18 months it had moved into hiring light shows, predominantly within the music industry. Matrix focused on providing reliable, high quality service and expanded its repertoire of equipment to include staging and crowd barriers that soon resulted in a wider range of clientele. Matrix moved to its current premises in Bayswater in 1992 as the business started to grow. Matrix began to expand its client base by catering for night clubs and dance parties, concerts in more substantial venues, expos, functions for schools, churches and community groups, fashion events and theatrical productions. Matrix Productions Australia became a registered company in 2002, and today does between 60 and 100 events a week. It also offers a range of products for sale and caters for the general public by way of providing a driveway hire and sales service. As the warranty repair agents for a wide range of products in the industry, Matrix provides a comprehensive technical repair service, as well as professional, experienced, service oriented staff for production work and operates.  In 2005 Matrix became accredited with the Events Industry Association ensuring a high standard of quality assurance in all aspects of their business The hire department of Matrix expanded further in 2007 with the acquisition of Pro Design's hire department, which enabled further expansion of Matrix' equipment levels and client base. Quality service and relationships with clients continues to be a key focus of the company, and a great deal of value is placed on long term partnerships. It is an integral part of the company’s policy and ethical code that clients' individual needs are both understood and consistently met.
